Project Overview

Overview provided by crowdfunder.co.uk

The aim of the project is tocreate a dedicated outdoor space for young people at Derian HouseChildren’s Hospice, designed to meet their unique needs and enhance theirquality of life. As young people transition into adulthood, they often requirespaces that reflect their growing independence and offer opportunities forsocial interaction, relaxation, and enjoyment. This new area will includeaccessible pathways, sensory planting, sheltered seating, and peaceful zonesfor reflection and connection. It will be a safe, inclusive environment whereyoung people can spend meaningful time with friends and family, away fromclinical settings. The space will promote mental wellbeing, emotionalresilience, and a sense of normality during challenging times. Above all, theproject seeks to respect the dignity and individuality of each young person, providing them with a comforting and engaging place that feels like their own.

Ward Buddies

We believe no child should feel abandoned, and no parent should have to choose between caring for their child in the hospital and caring for their family at home. Our vision is to build a sustainable model of emotional bedside care that can be shared with hospitals nationwide, and even around the world

R!SE Up

RISE with’ is our community led scheme, which harnesses the support of local organisations to provide life-changing experiences for young people. Coaching provides the foundation of our work, but we want to go further, raising aspirations for our young people. We believe the way to do this is by exposing them to new experiences, which have the potential to be life changing. Whether it’s drumming, boxing, parkour or cooking, these opportunities give young people access to new possibilities, life skills and passions.
