Life Cycle is a Bristol-based charity with a mission to transform lives and the environment through cycling. They help individuals unlock the environmental, financial, and wellbeing benefits of cycling, regardless of their background.

Project Overview

Overview provided by crowdfunder.co.uk

Their support today will help get people cycling while also backing social impact projects and enhancing sustainable transport in Bristol. With this assistance, they will recycle 20 bikes through their in-prison bike workshop, saving tons of metal from landfill, reducing carbon emissions from travel, and helping lift individuals out of transport poverty.

They are promoting sustainable, thriving, and connected communities by:

1) Reducing travel-related carbon emissions: Each person who learns to cycle or receives a recycled bike is empowered to use green transport instead of fossil fuel alternatives. Recycling each bike saves the emissions associated with manufacturing a new one. In the bike's first year of use, traveling by bike instead of car can save an average of 150 kg CO2e from being emitted, resulting in a total of 3,000 kg CO2e saved from the 20 bikes.

2) Saving metal from landfill: Their bikes are recycled through the in-prison bike workshop, where prisoners gain new skills and acquire professional-standard bike mechanic qualifications. On average, each recycled bike saves 15.2 kg of metal from landfill, totaling 304 kg of metal saved from 20 bikes.

3) Empowering climate action: Sustainable transport is often a privilege. By helping make cycling affordable for 20 individuals, their support will inspire a practical climate solution that addresses both health and poverty.

“Everyone benefits: prisoners learn new skills, the public can buy affordable bikes, road users benefit, and so does the environment. It's just so wholesome.” – Sarah, Bikes for the Community recipient.

Ward Buddies

We believe no child should feel abandoned, and no parent should have to choose between caring for their child in the hospital and caring for their family at home. Our vision is to build a sustainable model of emotional bedside care that can be shared with hospitals nationwide, and even around the world

R!SE Up

RISE with’ is our community led scheme, which harnesses the support of local organisations to provide life-changing experiences for young people. Coaching provides the foundation of our work, but we want to go further, raising aspirations for our young people. We believe the way to do this is by exposing them to new experiences, which have the potential to be life changing. Whether it’s drumming, boxing, parkour or cooking, these opportunities give young people access to new possibilities, life skills and passions.

The Brick
